Social media platform Twitter is going to experiment with a News tab on its mobile app, soon. The News tab will enable the users to view relevant news timely along with headlines as per the preferences.
As per a report by BuzzFeed. it has come across that Twitter is going to experiment with the option of News tab on its mobile application. This feature will be available for both iOS and Android Twitter app users. The News tab appears in the middle of the app’s navigation bar on iOS that will provide users with the most recent news pieces according to a user’s preferences.
Twitter’s experimental section is in the works to make relevant content easy to search. The tab in the middle of the app’s navigation bar will be responsible for trending news and lists of curated headlines available on the platform. Clicking on the headlines will redirect users to the story screen that will feature an image, headline and text from the story. You will also find related tweets discussing the news as well.
Twitter’s spokesman stated:
“We’re experimenting with a news experience on iOS and Android as we continue to explore new ways to surface the best content to users.”
“Twitter’s raw feed is turning into the product’s engine. And that engine is powering mini-products with what is perhaps the best live feed of information in the world.”
This should be a welcome feature for users who want to rely on Twitter mostly for news, but as BuzzFeed points out, this is also a great way for Twitter to potentially generate ad revenue as inserting ads in between news might not be as disruptive compared to the regular feed which feels more conversational at times.
This News feature does nt have ad aspects at present. However, advertisers o Twitter make a note of the fact that the social media platform has a design where the inclusion of ads is quite difficult unless and until they barge in the conversation. Interestingly, the news on when this feature will be launched has not been declared as yet.
